The Festival de Cornouaille
Created in 1923 to defend Breton culture, the Festival de Cornouaille is held every year in July and turns Quimper into a party capital. Grand parade of six thousand participants in costume, concerts, bagadoù, dance displays: the whole town joins in. Meeting by the stage, then a fest-noz in the evening under paper lanterns, makes for an intense and joyful opening date.
Contemporary stage and fest-noz
Out of season, Quimper lives to the rhythm of the Théâtre de Cornouaille, a national stage housed in a modern building by the Odet. Concerts, creations and contemporary dance share its programme. In association halls and city squares, fest-noz evenings of traditional Breton music and dance, listed by UNESCO, let you hold hands very quickly, in a gavotte or an an-dro.
Terre-au-Duc and Locmaria
Place Terre-au-Duc, once the heart of the ducal quarter, lines up its half-timbered houses and crêperies. Right next door, the Saint-François market hall, where producers hold stalls every day except Monday, extends the walk. Walking down the Odet, the Locmaria district preserves a Romanesque church and the faience museum. On Lyad, people from Quimper share their concert addresses; it is up to you to find someone to link steps with.
